Description and information

The reef roof of Habili Ali – St. John’s is therefore at a depth of around 6 meters. The reef itself has an east-west extent of around 300 meters and the north-south extent is around 80 meters.

In the north, the reef has a narrow base about 20 meters deep, which then quickly drops to depths of around 150 meters. From southwest to southeast there are several narrow ledges with depths between 25 and 40 meters. Outside these ledges, depths of around 120 meters are reached.

Due to the prevailing currents from the north, sharks (gray sharks, hammerhead sharks, and silvertip sharks) can often be observed at the eastern and western tips. Black corals can be observed in the northwest from a depth of around 7 meters.

In the west there is a large gorgonian field at depths between 30 and 45 meters, some of which are over 2 meters in diameter. The south side is crisscrossed by cracks and washouts at depths of 12 - 25 meters. At the eastern end of the 30-meter plateau in the southwest there is a beautiful anemone field at a depth of about 12 meters.
