ST. JOHN'S

Deep, deep in the south lie the St. John's reefs. This group of reefs is rarely dived due to the distance and therefore offers divers an almost untouched underwater world.

The fish wealth is also great in St. John's and here you can meet the otherwise rare bumphead parrotfish. A look into the blue water can be extremely worthwhile: large fish such as sharks, barracuda, or schools of mackerel and tuna are not uncommon here. If you are lucky you can also come across manta rays and dolphins.

St. John’s Reef

All of its dive sites are very close to each other, making it easy to travel from one dive site to another on a liveaboard. St. John's offers a lot of variety in its dives: steep walls, tunnels, caves and breathtaking hard coral formations. One of these dives (St. John's Caves or Umm Kharalim) is truly unique and is a photographer's heaven with rays of light shimmering through small tunnels.

St. John’s Reef North

Cave Reef is about an hour north of St. John's Reefs. You'll have a lot of fun finding your way through tunnels and around battlements. One of the most beautiful diving spots in the Red Sea.

Fury Shoal

A vast chain of reefs with a variety of outstanding dive sites. Abu Galawa in the north to Sataya in the south. Have fun discovering caves, tunnels, coral gardens, plateaus and cliffs! For example, at Abu Galawa within Fury Shoal there is a wreck called the “Tugs”.

Elphinstone Reef

This reef is known for shark encounters, whitetip reef sharks, hammerhead sharks, gray reef sharks, thresher sharks and of course what Elphinstone is famous for: the Longimanus – the oceanic whitetip reef shark.

Elphinstone Reef or Sha’ab Abu Hamra, located 20 km from Marsa Alam, is a reef no larger than 300 meters in length. Its spectacular steep walls drop down well over 100 meters on both sides of the reef. Strong currents make this a perfect drift dive along steep walls covered with many species of fish and soft corals. Here you can see barracudas, angelfish and hordes of anthias, groupers, moray eels and schools of sweetlips. The reef is covered with soft corals all the way to the north. At the southern end of Elphinstone is an archway with a depth of 65 meters, this is well beyond the recreational diving limit but ideal for technical divers. Whitetip sharks also occasionally visit this area.
Other species of sharks are regular visitors here – whitetip and gray reef sharks, as well as hammerheads and silky sharks can be spotted.

The east side is a large cliff, the west is less steep and a little sandier. Overall, this area has a lot of soft corals, sponges, gorgonians and giant whip corals.
The exact route and reefs depend on the weather and the diving experience of our guests.

The St. John’s liveaboard starts and ends in Port Ghalib.
